Group of 14K Gold Vanity Accessories with Diamond-Set Powder Compact — Property from the Estate of Onnalee Olson Doheny

From the distinguished Estate of Onnalee Olson Doheny, this refined mid-century ensemble in 14-karat gold comprises a ridged circular powder compact heightened by a geometric panel of single-cut diamonds (est. 2.25 carats), together with a lipstick case signed Ruser and two pill boxes of matching motif. The disciplined ribbing and crisp geometry create a modernist interplay of light across the surfaces, while the diamond panel lends restrained brilliance. Offered with a fitted leather case for the compact and weighing approximately 221.8 grams, the group balances functional elegance with collectible substance. Provenance & Collector Biography Onnalee Olson Doheny—a Los Angeles grande dame and noted philanthropist—was born October 24, 1919, and educated at the Marlborough School and Holmby College. In 1955, she married William H. Doheny, her partner for fifty-eight years; together they raised a large family and supported faith, arts, and civic causes. Mrs. Doheny was a founding member of The Colleagues (benefiting Children’s Institute, Inc.), a board member of the Bel Air Garden Club, an honorary board member of the Doheny Eye Institute, past president of the Los Angeles Orphanage Guild, a contributor to the Doheny Memorial Library (USC), and a life trustee of Saint John’s Hospital. Her giving extended to LACMA and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. A passionate horticulturalist, she favored jewels with avian and floral motifs; her collection included pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels, Ruser, Webb, and Bulgari—a refined lens on Hollywood’s golden mid-century and California elegance.
